What is telehealth?
Telehealth provides medical care through online video conferencing. You can avoid traveling to the office by using your smartphone, tablet, or computer to meet with your Prosperity Internal Medicine provider.
Some people prefer to use virtual visits on a routine basis. Others rely on telehealth when they’re too sick to go into the office, have limited time, or face other roadblocks (like not having child care).
What can I expect from telehealth?
Prosperity Internal Medicine provides primary care for people aged 14 and older living throughout Northern Virginia. Nearly every service available in the office can be provided through telehealth, including initial appointments, follow-up visits, sick visits, and preventive health care.
You can use technology at home for measuring vital signs like your blood pressure, weight, and heart rate. When needed, your provider can arrange for remote monitoring of many chronic health conditions, including high blood pressure, diabetes, and respiratory and heart conditions.
Your provider can see problems like skin rashes and injuries through video conferencing. And if you need medications, they send your prescription to your local pharmacy.
Some services must be done in-person. For example, you need to schedule an in-person appointment for immunizations, bloodwork, and direct care like intravenous (IV) therapy, Pap smears, or a breast or prostate exam.
What services are available through telehealth?
Your Prosperity Internal Medicine provider can diagnose and treat most health conditions through telehealth appointments. You can receive services such as:
- Illnesses requiring a same-day sick visit
- Women’s health (such as birth control and menopause management)
- Men’s health (such as erectile dysfunction)
- Mental health support
- Medical weight loss
- Stress management
- Allergies and asthma
- Chronic disease management
Whether you need to schedule a new patient appointment or a follow-up visit, you can connect with your provider and get high-quality health care through telehealth visits.
How do I prepare for a telehealth appointment?
You simply need to contact the office to let them know you’re interested in telehealth. They schedule your appointment and send instructions about how and when to connect. Though video conferencing is preferred, they may be able to arrange an audio-only appointment on the phone.
